Kikuyu
Highland Tea grows on the slopes east of the Great Rift
Valley where it was introduced at the turn of the 20th
Century by two European settlers, known as the Caine
Brothers.
Commercial
tea plantations were then begun in the 1920s, the
main plant being the world re-known Assam type.
This
type of tea matures slowly, developing strong natural
enzymes that give the tea a markedly superior taste. Growing
and processing is done with
utmost care to ensure that yields meet rigorous
international standards.
Today,
tea from the Kikuyu highlands continues to thrive and has
consistently been the countrys no. 1 foreign exchange
earner.
